Dr. Loren Lipworth is an epidemiologist. She is a Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of the Division of Epidemiology at Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she has served on the faculty for 25 years. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Neuroscience from Brown University and a Doctor of Science degree in Epidemiology from the Harvard School of Public Health. She has extensive research experience in the design, conduct, analysis and interpretation of epidemiologic studies utilizing large-scale population-based epidemiologic cohorts. Her current research is focused on environmental, lifestyle and genetic risk factors for cancer, cardiovascular disease and other chronic diseases, with a focus on health disparities. Dr. Lipworth is currently conducting two large epidemiologic studies of environmental exposures and the exposome, including per-and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), in relation to cancer risk. Dr. Lipworth's research has been funded by the National Cancer Institute, the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, the National Institute on Aging, the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, among others. Her work has been published in over 230 articles in the peer-reviewed medical literature.
